Teeth fillings are used when a patient has a cavity or a crack that needs to be filled. Our Lansing dental office can fill your cavity with a natural colored filling.

About | Fillings

A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay, crack, wear, or break to its normal shape and function to its normal function and shape. If you have a tooth that requires a filling, we will first remove the decay, clean the affected area, and then fill the cleaned out the cavity with a filling material. A filling helps prevent further decay by closing off any cracks or spaces where bacteria can enter.

Cavities can cause tooth pain and should be treated with a filling right away to prevent further damage. Contact us at our Lansing office to schedule an appointment for a tooth filling.

Types of | Fillings

  • Amalgam

Amalgam (silver) fillings are tolerant to heavy wear. However, due to their dark color, they are more noticeable than composite restorations and are not recommended for fillings in very visible areas such as front teeth.

  • Composite

Composite resins are custom made to match the color of your natural teeth, creating a more natural appearance. While white fillings may be less noticeable than other materials, they may not be ideal for large fillings as they may chip or wear over time. They can also become stained from coffee, tea or tobacco.
