Mouthguards and nightguards are used to protect teeth for various reasons. We can get you the right nightguard or mouthguard at our Lansing dental office.
Mouthguards
Mouthguards are recommended to protect the jaw and teeth during physical activity and sports such as boxing, football, basketball, or other activities where your mouth may be hit. Guards also protect the soft tissues of your tongue, lips and cheek lining. This reduces the risk of teeth falling out or other oral injuries.
Nightguards
Nightguards are recommended for patients with teeth grinding or bruxism. This is when someone clenches or grinds their teeth while they sleep and a nightguard helps protect their teeth and bite from damage. If you wake up with headaches, jaw or tooth pain, you may need to see us about getting a nightguard.
Custom designed mouthguards and nightguards are made of flexible plastic that are molded to fit the shape of your teeth. Dental guards are the best way to protect your teeth for a variety of reasons. There are two types of guards that we custom fit to your unique teeth: mouthguards and nightguards.
If you have decided a guard is right for you, we will take an impression of your teeth which will then be sent to a lab to make a custom fit guard. In most cases you can choose from a variety of colors and styles. On average, guards last between 3 and 10 years.
